2025 Colorado College Student Projects
Students Learn About & Assess the Fountain Creek Watershed
In the Fall semester of 2025, FCWD partnered with Colorado College Environmental Economics class and its professor, Dr. Michelan Wilson. FCWD Outreach Coordinator, Mary Wilson, introduced the District and its work and provide an overview of the Fountain Creek Watershed to the class. For the next three weeks, students observed the District's past, current, and proposed projects firsthand - with site visits, presentations, and more. They used this information to create three storymaps and three infographics advocating for sustainable FCWD funding. Dr. Michelan Wilson presented the top storymap and infographic to the District's Citizen Advisory Group at its April meeting, and these projects were also on display later at FCWD's inaugural State of the Watershed Summit in January 2026. The storymap and infographic combine to provide an overview and evaluation of the District's work around erosion control, the erratic nature of the creek, thoughts on future projects, and ways to develop funding for these essential efforts.
The District will continue to work with Colorado College on these types of projects as this was a mutually beneficial partnership.
